A beautiful day to pick up in the community

Today 25 residents assembled in the office parking lot to get their road assignments for our Earth Day Community Clean-up. Those present with trash bags and gloves in hand were:
Sam, Tammy and Ryan Martin
Chuck Marsh
Mike and Patti Mundy
Bridget and Ken Michitsch
Bill and Rita Tomlinson
Tom and Nancy Halpin
Kathy Showers
Brian Donnelly
Camille Herman
Betty and Clarence Hampton
Carol Carole
Jerry Dixon
Steve Mahn
Tom and Susan Cresta
Michael McTiernan
Carol Simonelli
Chris Hartzell

The team worked for three hours and brought back an enormous amount of refuse. Some of this had obviously been there for years with just enough of it peeking out to be unsightly. But there was obviously trash that had recently been dumped.
The most interesting find was a sign that had once been posted in the area between Sheridan Rd and Ferris Rd. It was probably put there around 1978 and it marked the site of the planned TENNIS COURTS. (Read Community Stories #1 and #2 posted on this blog)

Sam Martin makes road assignments

Brian and Tammy are ready for a good days work.

Sometimes whole bags of discarded, decomposing trash had to be picked up.
Trucks, golf carts, and wagons were used to bring the trash back to the dumpster.
Large metal pieces were taken to the twp. center for recycling. The dumpster was overflowing.

Below: An announcement of a  Tennis Court that never materialized was found. The sign served as a selling feature in the 70's. It was found on the proposed site between Sheridan and Ferris Rds.
