A message from The Connection

Hello friends,
At one of recent meetings we decided that we would like to extend an invitation to the membership to help us and join the PLCC.

We are seeking responsible individuals to help us with neighborhood events. It seems like we always have a good turnout at these events, we would now like to extend an invitation to others that would like to help us.

None of us on the PLCC have small children anymore. It seems that when we plan events for the younger children we don't get the turnout that we thought we would. We would like to get some voulnteers with younger children that are more in tune to their interests. Maybe we are missing the mark with what we think the younger kids would like.

We meet on the second Wednesday of every month in the Community Center basement, these meetings are at 6:00 pm anyone interested is welcome to attend or drop us an email anytime.

Happy Holidays

Trunk or Treat at PLC - Oct 26

It was a great night for ghosts and goblins! Community members gathered in the office parking lot before dark. At 6PM the gathering of the candy began. The costumes were wonderful.
Also, six of the best decorated trunks are shown below. The pictures do not do them justice since many had lights and errie sound effects.

Oktoberfest - Oct. 12

Almost 50 residents and their families came out on this beautiful day to celebrate our version of Oktoberfest.
Folks gathered in clusters. It was a great opportunity to spend time with our neighbors.
A favorite activity for our community members is a game of "'Corn Hole."

Day 2 of Farewell to Summer

Today was the second day of savoring the final days of summer. We didn't have the wonderful weather that we had yesterday. About 3PM the rains came. The beach was emptied and many from the field took refuge under the tent. The field games were brought in while DJ Pete continued with the music. An umbrella over the BBQ saved the burgers (and the cooks). The storm was short-lived and everyone went back to games and conversation.
Here comes Fall and the beautiful foliage!

Come bid farewell to Summer

The Community Connection sponsored a two day Farewell to Summer (today and tomorrow). DJ Pete once again kept us entertained. Some community members just came by to enjoy the music, others played games. Many enjoyed the fact that the rains held off and they could enjoy a beautiful beach day. The coals were hot on the grill so those who wished to bring their own grilling foods could use the BBQ.

Why not come down tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 1). DJ Pete will be back 12pm to 4pm.

Saturday nights in the Community Room

Looking for something to do on  Saturday nights? Why not come down to the Community Room (in the basement of the office) and spend some time with your neighbors. Tom Halpin, affectionately called "The Mayor," Opens the community room to all community adults at 8 pm on Saturdays when he is in town. I took these pictures before the place started jumping. Come on down!

Kids! Sign up for Arts and Crafts Camp. Aug 12 - 16

Our crafty lady Nancy Halpin will be conducting an Arts and Crafts Camp during the week of August 12 to 15. Each day a different craft will be worked on. There is no charge to the participants. The money raised from the Ceramics Group's silent auction at the Independence Day celebration has been used to fund this project. The paricipants will gather at noon each day under the large tent across from the beach.
Pre-registration is required! Nancy needs to know how many will be participating to have adequate supplies available. A sign-up sheet will be avialable under the plastic on the bulletin board across from the mailboxes.
Left: a cute birdhouse ornament. Right: A log wedge "Welcome" sign
Left: flowers the deer won't eat. Right: 5x7 decorated picture frame
Nancy's saving this project for a windy day! Kids will make and then fly a homemade kite.

Independence Day Celebration Part 3 - that night

The celebrating continued into the night. Live music got the community members on their feet for some dancing. The evening was beautiful. Sitting and chatting or playing with a Frisbee in the field, it was all fun. And then the fireworks - much more spectacular than these pictures show. The weather was perfect all day - then a half hour after it was all over the rains came down. Perfect timing.

More about the Independence Day gathering - 2

There were a few different activities going on that made the day special. Sand Art - Fish Pond - DJ on the beach - Water balloon challenge to name a few. One of the traditional competitions of the day is the blind rowers race. The rower is blindfolded while directions through the course come from a co-pilot. The winners received a gift certificate to a local ice cream shop. The results are:
Up to 17 age group - 7 boats competed  - winners Brady and Bryant with a time of 1:27.03 mins.
Ages 18 - 44 - 4 boats competed - winners Eric and Greg - time 1:0.77 mins.
45+ age group - 5 boats competed - winners Pam and Nancy - time 1:31.96 mins.

I missed getting the pictures of the winners but I did get Alyssa and Betty (who happened to take the longest time of any of the competitors 10:47.27 mins.) Alyssa, who does very well in an auto, found steering a row boat a bit more difficult. She removed the blindfold and, nonetheless, ended up among the swimmers.
Oh NO! No boats with the swimmers!
Below: Contenders line up for the Balloon Toss. Great fun!

Independence Day Celebration Today - part 1

The weather was beautiful, the food was wonderful, a good time was had by all!
Some enjoyed the shade and gentile breeze under the trees, while others loved the feel of the sun and water at the beach.

All those who would like to be involved will meet at 41 East Shore Drive at 11am on Saturday morning. Veterans who need a ride to East Shore will be picked up at the beach. We encourage all Golf Cart and ATV owners to decorate their vehicles patriotically and add to the spirit of the day. The parade will leave 41 East Shore at 11:45. The parade will end at the Childrens’ Nature Garden where the flag ceremony will take place.

Food will be served at 12pm. Veterans and their families will be served first.

There will also be an added bonus this year an ice cream truck that will be arriving from 2-4 with a free cone for anyone 16 and under. Everyone else is pay as you go.

Good times at the BBQ

About 100 community members gathered today to welcome summer. A good time was had by all, no matter how you chose to spend your time.

Some played Washers, some just watched, some caught up with friends after a long winter, some flew a kite, some clowned around, some played in the playground, some ate and chatted and some admired a friend's new toy.
If you couldn't make it this time, plan on it next time.
